Important Things To Note:
Repost Network is a fantastic distribution service, however it was recently purchased by SoundCloud. Because of this, their customer support suffered dramatically due to an influx of new users but not even staff to cover the chat that they have in-built on their platform. When we first used Repost Network their support was incredible – It usually took no more than 1 hour to receive a response to any questions. However, after the acquisition from SoundCloud it can now take up to 1 week, with no clear answers and we’ve ended up going back-and-forth at times trying to get issues resolved.
I have discussed this problem with them and they have clarified that this is something they are working on for the near future. We can only hope they follow through with this, because everything other than their current support system is perfect.
Does Repost Network Offer Music Promotion?
I’ll start this by saying you should never base your decision on whether a distributor promotes your music, but rather the cost/percentage of royalties they take and support they offer. However if you’re keen to know more, they do offer different sections of promotion within their user dashboard. You can pitch to Repost Network playlists and partners, stores and official SoundCloud playlists.
Final Notes on Repost Network:
If you’re running a record label or you’re an artist with lots of releases, Repost Network is a great option – It’s simple to use, you can be assured the correct music will be sent to stores and the split-pay function is the best we’ve found while looking at each distribution company. Keep in mind though, that their customer service is now lacking and needs to improve dramatically before we can recommend it as the complete solution. If they’re taking 20% of your royalties then they definitely need to show more care to the queries of their customers.
The best alternative? RouteNote – Unlimited releases/artists, split-pay, YouTube Content ID and good support. They take 15% of your royalties, which is 5% less than Repost Network.
If you’re running an established label, and want to keep 100% of royalties, we’d suggest you also take a look at iMusician. They cover a bunch of stores, alongside YouTube Content ID. They’re also implementing split-pay functionality in the near future. Unlike RouteNote though, it’s €499 per year.
