What Is Spare Music?
Spare Music is the new kid on the block when it comes to music distribution. I say ‘kid’ but their service is already super impressive when it comes down to what they have to offer and the overall feel of their website.
As with all distribution companies, Spare Music helps musicians get their music into stores. Although the options of stores are limited right now, they cover the majority that any artist or label needs. These include stores such as Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, TIDAL, NetEase and a few more. They also allow users to monetise their music on SoundCloud and take advantage of YouTube Content ID.
All-in-all they cover all the key things you require when it comes to distributing your music and collecting royalties from online stores, YouTube and SoundCloud!
Who Can Use Spare Music?
Although both artists and record labels can use Spare Music, we feel it’s more catered to artists. Unlike distribution companies such as Repost Network and RouteNote, Spare Music has an up-front fee rather than being solely royalty share driven. This means that you can’t use the platform for hundreds of artists on your label, unless you want to pay a large up-front fee.
There initial plan for labels allows 10 artists; priced at $99 per year – Which makes it difficult for labels to scale their business. However you can reach out to their team to discuss any options if you decide that their service is the right fit for you. It doesn’t hurt to reach out and ask questions. It even says on their pricing page ‘contact us for customised solutions’ – So they’re open to discussing your requirements!
Their support and customer care is also incredible – But we’ll delve deeper into that below.
Their pricing for artists is fairly competitive:
Artist: $3.99/month or $19.99/year

Artist Pro: $7.99/month or $59.99/year
- Keep 100% of royalites.
- Keep 80% of YouTube Content ID earnings.
- Free iTunes pre-orders.
- 2 Artist profiles.
Both allow 48 hour uploads, daily stream analytics and the ability to set up pre-save links so you can share with fans before your music hits stores.
Does Spare Music Have A Free Option?
A little while ago they did have a free option for artists, however they took a larger portion of royalties.

What We Love About Spare Music:
As I mentioned earlier, their support is unrivalled. Through many years of working with an extensive list of distributors I’ve never experienced the level of support that Spare Music offers. This, of course could be because they’re rather new, however, I’ve reached out a number of times since their launch with each response being almost immediate.
Having great support is extremely important when distributing your music. If anything goes wrong and you can’t resolve the issue with ease, you’re going to suffer a lot of frustration.
What We Don’t Like About Spare Music:
In all honesty, there’s not much that Spare Music doesn’t offer in comparison to other distribution companies. The only things I feel that could be improved upon is their pricing for labels – 10 Artists at $99 per year won’t work long-term for any label trying to scale their business. This could structured by royalty-share or re-worked where up-front costs are concerned. If you have a successful label, or one with a many releases/artists, contact their team and hopefully you’ll be able to work something out.
On top of this, they could add more stores. This isn’t a big issue – Because Spare Music do have all the major stores covered and their platform hasn’t been around for too long. I’m sure this is something they’re working on.
In time, this could be the next major distribution company if they keep improving their service year on year.
Important Things To Note:
Spare Music hasn’t been around for as long as other distribution companies we cover throughout our distribution guide, but they’re great at what they do and they’re continuously improving.
Does Spare Music Offer Music Promotion?
They don’t offer in-house promotion but they do have a pre-save feature. This helps artists share their music with fans prior to release. As I keep saying – They’re constantly adding new things so I’m sure they’ll implement other cool features in the future!
Final Notes on Spare Music:
I would recommend Spare Music to any artist that doesn’t mind paying for their ‘Artist Pro’ plan. It’s more expensive in comparison to services such as ‘Ditto‘ and ‘Distrokid‘ who are similar, but the difference in support is night and day – Which should be one of your main priorities. You don’t want to be kicking yourself while struggling to resolve issues when you could of paid a little extra. Receiving constant support by a team of people who actually care about you, and your music can make a huge difference.
